To Make Use of or Not to Use a Smartphone Data Cable

By Gareth Jale

Smart phones, with its wide variety of uses, are very important nowadays. It's essentially two devices (a personal computer / laptop computer and a mobile phone in one), as it can do the features of both. It has the usefulness of a computer, plus the portability of a mobile phone.

However, not all functionalities and features can be covered by the smart phone. Some functionalities and features still need the use of a separate device, particularly and most commonly, computers. For example, you need to edit your videos. While there are smart phones that are capable of editing videos, some features are still lacking and still requires the use of a computer (rendering, adding video / still effects, etc.). So in order for you to edit these files on a computer, you will need to transfer it from your mobile device to your computer. But how can they transfer these files from their phone to their computer?

The solution? By using smart phone data cables. With smart phone data cables, you can transfer your documents, videos, and other files from your phone to your computer easily. Alternatively, you can send files from your computer to your mobile device. It is an easier, more efficient way of transferring your files from one device to another, as data cables usually come with the mobile phone / smart phone package. Data cables are different from each other. For example, if you are using an LG Revere mobile phone, you can only use LG Revere accessories like the LG Revere data cable, and if you're using Motorola Triumph (smart phone), you should only use Motorola Triumph accessories.

Using data cable as a method of transferring files is also more secure compared to other ways. With data cables, you know that all your files are being transferred only to that device. This is different and safer than other file-transferring methods, such as Bluetooth, as other Bluetooth-enabled devices can receive the files you want to transfer on that method. In effect, your privacy is lost as others will have a chance of viewing said file at their own time. The same goes with other methods of file transferring such as FTP, smart phone to PC synchronization, and other possible methods. So if you want to transfer your files more securely, you should use a data cable instead of using other possible methods.

However, as mentioned earlier, there are different kinds of data cables, and these data cables only work accordingly to the brand and the model. For example, if you have a BlackBerry Bold 9930, you cannot use a BlackBerry Bold 9000 data cable, as you will need to get yourself a BlackBerry Bold 9930 accessories data cable (or a BlackBerry Bold 9000 data cable, if you're using a BlackBerry Bold 9000). But there are other mobile phone companies that allow usage of data cables on mobile phones / smart phones under their brand. For example, Nokia and LG have a similar data cable for phones under a specific "family" (Nokia E-series, LG Optimus series, etc.). This is of great benefit to the users, as they don't need and require to get another data cable for another one of their phones.

Data cables come free with the mobile phone package, but if data cables are not included at the package, you can at your nearest mobile phone boutique, or at the shop itself.
